Opening up about my journey with psychedelics and breathwork is deeply personal. As someone in recovery from hard drugs, there's often a stigma attached to exploring these paths. However, combining psychedelics and breathwork has profoundly transformed my life, helping me reshape my relationship with substances in ways I never anticipated. Let me take you through some of my experience—as we dive into entheogenic therapy and breathwork, both of which can lead to similar impactful experiences.

Discovering Breathwork

My journey began with breathwork, a practice that opened me up to exploring DMT. My previous partner was preparing for a 5MEO-DMT ceremony, and again, due to being on antidepressants, I couldn't participate. Despite this, I felt a strong inner calling to experience this medicine. With Nurse Caron’s guidance and the support of breathwork, I managed to discontinue my SSRIs, a significant milestone after being on them since I was 18. By September 2022, I was free from the pharmaceutical hold, a liberating step in my healing journey. Not to mention I have completely healed my hyperthyroidism with breathwork! So no pharmaceutical drugs at all!

Introduction to 5-MeO-DMT

In November 2022, I experienced 5-MeO-DMT for the first time. Known as one of the most potent psychedelics available, 5-MeO-DMT offers a complete non-dual experience. Unlike many other substances (yes, even ayahuasca and mushrooms), 5-MeO-DMT dissolves the ego entirely, creating a profound sense of unity with all of existence. This state of oneness and connection is an unparalleled experience on Earth. I have never experienced anything like this.

To clarify, 5-MeO-DMT differs significantly from N,N-DMT, which I had tried before the 5MEO on my 30th birthday. Needless to say my 30s have been awesome so far!N,N-DMT, also known as Changa when combined with other herbs, offers a powerful but distinct experience from 5-MeO-DMT. While N,N-DMT and 5-MeO-DMT are both intense, 5-MeO-DMT is known for its ability to induce a more profound dissolution of the self. Which also can happen in breathwork! Experiencing 5-MeO-DMT felt like my life was shifted into another new dimension, though the integration of this experience was challenging, and this medicine is not for everybody! I waited nearly a year before working with this medicine again. It was intense and it was powerful! I needed time to digest what was happening. Although, I did sit in medicine journeys for the next couple of years as I was unraveling deep trauma and grief from a 4 year relationship.

Integration and Breathwork

A year later, during a breathwork session with Olivia Sage, I had a powerful encounter with my ancestors, who guided me toward further healing. This encounter led me to feel a strong pull toward Ayahuasca (plant medicine, also DMT, but N-N-DMT)  though I wasn’t ready to try it quite yet. I moved into a new apartment and, while practicing breathwork in my bathtub, I unearthed deep-rooted sexual trauma. About a month later, I met a woman serving Acacia, a plant medicine that, although less intense than Ayahuasca, was highly impactful. The Acacia ceremony revealed the trauma that surfaced during breathwork, preparing me for future ceremonies. Are you seeing the correlation between breathwork and psychedelics? I was able to dive deep into that sexual trauma, bring it to the surface, and even bring it to my abusers attention! This was the most liberating experience I have ever had.

Experiencing Ayahuasca

In July 2023, I participated in an Ayahuasca ceremony for one night and again in November for a two-night ceremony. The second ceremony was particularly life-changing, providing significant energetic and physical healing. I got to meet my step father who had passed away, imitate my brother in Iraq, and meet my deepest shadow. While I am grateful for these profound experiences, I don’t feel drawn to continue working with Ayahuasca, especially in the US. Both Ayahuasca ceremonies came with challenging integrations, made more complex by personal circumstances like a breakup. This highlights the importance of integration, a topic I dive into in my Integration blog post.

The Path Forward with Bufo Alvarius

Over the past two years, I have deepened my work with Bufo Alvarius, a natural source of 5-MeO-DMT, and will soon complete my training in Tulum, Mexico. Both Bufo and breathwork have emerged as the most effective tools I’ve found to catapult my healing and the healing of many others. These practices strip away the ego, allowing us to access a state of complete non-duality. This approach is vastly different from other spiritual practices that might incorporate more ego-driven elements.

For those interested in learning more about 5-MeO-DMT, I recommend reading Martin Ball’s books on the subject. Entheogenic Liberation  and 5-Meo-DMT Integration. His approach has been incredibly influential in my own journey and integration with this medicine. Unlike some spiritual practices that might involve crystals or tarot cards, my focus is on facilitating change through the power of breath and entheogenic therapy. Two powerful modalities that are proven to be beneficial and life changing.

Integration

Please refer to my blog about Integration here. As we have come into the new age of healing, especially with psychedelics, it is important to always provide integration support and guidelines. Especially for after breathwork and after entheogenic therapy assisted sessions.

Conclusion

The journey with breathwork and 5-MeO-DMT has been very life-changing. My life has been on the fast track, Although I am here to tell you that THE BREATH IS THE MEDICINE! No matter how many times I sit in sacred ceremonies, the DMT always tells me that the breath is all that we need. Not to mention, we can produce DMT with our own breath!

These practices have provided me with deep healing and profound insights, reshaping my personal and spiritual growth. If you have questions or are curious about these practices, feel free to reach out. I’m here to guide you on your path to healing and transformation.
